CDMA also increases line capacity allowing twenty users to share the same radio frequency that that was once required for the transmission of a single call.

Using a distributed gateway call processing system, Globalstar links calls through existing public and private telephone networks and cellular systems on the ground. When a Globalstar subscriber initiates a call, the satellite that can deliver the strongest signal picks up the call, identifies the caller, and links the signal through the nearest gateway terminal on the ground. Calls between mobile users are beamed up to the satellite, down to Earth, through the gateway, back to the satellite, and finally down to the mobile customer receiving the call.
